Notes

December 30th, 2017; the end of the year, an exploration in personal space and boundaries:

Dear friends,

We are so fortunate to have a body to dance with, a heart that beats, lungs that breathe, hands and arms and legs and feet to express the life force that moves through us. We have limbs to shape space, hips to sashay with, a spine to turn and spiral through.

So many of us have had experiences of disconnection from our bodies, our voices, and our desires. So many of us have been taught that we should live only in a small part of our power. Many of us learned it's not okay to say no to what we do not want, or to say yes to what we desire.

There is an immense, wild, simple, and natural power to be found through fully inhabiting our creative life force, through nurturing, expanding, grounding, and elevating the creative expression of our living being. Our muscles, bones, tissues, nerves, blood passages... all this gorgeous diversity is ours to communicate with.

This Saturday, come explore fully inhabiting your creative, expressive body, and the grounded extension of your personal space. We will develop clarity in communicating our desires for closeness and distance, as they shift and evolve moment to moment, with one another.

Come dive into your creative expression in movement. Shed the worry that you are too much. Move through your shyness about initiating connection with others. Embrace the freedom to say no when you would prefer to be on your own, the freedom to simply say goodbye when you feel ready to move on. Want more personal space to splash about in? Yearning for closeness but unsure about how to ask? Love being clear about your desires? Afraid to express your needs? This is the class for you.

Come play, be, discover.

And, here are some the songs played that day:

What a tremendously exciting outdoor Mindful Movement exploration on Saturday! Thank you for your willingness to be together in stillness and quiet in the midst of the swirl of life in the park - soccer games, dogs and dog walkers, children playing...  What a gift to rest into the light and the breeze streaming through the trees, and let movement emerge from this gentle receptivity to the world around us.

Here are the songs played during this session:

What a joy it was to move with you on Saturday! Attached here is the poem read at the end of class, and some of the music played - by artist with song title:

It takes only a moment to breathe,
a moment to be still, and just like that,
something in me settles, softens,
makes space for imperfection.
The harsh voice of judgment
drops to a whisper and
I remember again
that life isn’t a relay race,
that we will all cross the finish line,
that waking up to life
is what we were born for.
As many times as I forget,
catch myself charging forward
without even knowing where I’m going,
that many times I can make the choice
to stop, to breathe, and be,
and walk slowly into the mystery.
-Danna Faulds, “Walk Slowly”
